OCEANSIDE–North County Transit District will celebrate National Train Day with special discounted rides on the Coaster.
National Train Day is sponsored by Amtrak and is celebrated each year on the Saturday closest to May 10, which is the anniversary of the pounding of the “Golden Spike” in Promontory Utah. That final tie marked the completion of the first transcontinental railroad that transformed America.
The train ride includes activity packs for the children, local train trivia and the chance to win Train Day prizes through a seat lottery.
Advance purchase of tickets is required. Tickets cost $10 and is good for up to four passengers. Passengers can purchase tickets from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Oceanside Transit Center, 205 S. Tremont St. in Oceanside. Cash only.
The Train Day ticket allows passengers to board the following trains at any stop, but only on the following trains:
Southbound: Board the #684 southbound train that leaves Oceanside at 11:08 a.m. This will include Train Day activities.
Northbound: Return on one of two afternoon northbound trains: The #685 leaving Santa Fe Depot at 12:25 p.m. or the #689 train leaving Santa Fe Depot at 3:15 p.m.
