SAN DIEGO–The Navy will be conducting its nationwide force protection training exercise at San Diego-area bases and installations from Feb. 25 to March 1.
Held annually, Exercise Citadel Shield enhances the training and readiness of Navy security personnel to respond to threats to installations and units. It is not a response to specific threats, but is regularly scheduled for practical experience and learning.
The Navy will be working this year with other military and local, state and federal agencies to enhance the training scenarios. The FBI, San Diego and Coronado police departments, and Naval Criminal Investigative Service are some of the organizations participating.
Measures have been taken to minimize disruptions to normal base and station operations, but there may be times when the exercise causes increased traffic around bases or delays in base access. Area residents may also see increased security activity associated with the exercise.
