LA MESA–Heartland Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched Friday afternoon to a report of a natural gas line break in the 8500 block of Alpine Ave. in La Mesa.
Fire crews arrived within 5 minutes and determined that a ¾” gas line had been severed by construction crews.
Several residences on that block were evacuated as a precaution until the leak could be shut down.
SDG&E crews arrived on scene within 15 minutes and were able to successfully clamp the severed line. Construction crews stated that they had only one gas line marked on their plans, but upon excavation, a second line was found and struck. Residents were allowed back into their houses immediately after the gas line was clamped off.
