La Jolla, CA–Tournament officials have announced the seeds and draws for next week’s United States Tennis Association National 40 Hard Court Championships which will be played November 29 through December 5, 2021 at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.
Anthony Perkins of Lenexa, Kansas is the top-seed in the men’s singles 40 and over division. The 41-year-old Perkins, a native of Great Britain, is the Director of Tennis at Overland Park Racquet Club in Overland Park, Kan. He is currently ranked No. 15 in the International Tennis Federation Singles 40 and over Rankings. Earlier this year, Perkins captured the 40 and over singles title at the ITF Senior Invitational Championships in Atlanta.
The top-seeded Perkins received a first-round bye at the USTA National 40 Hard Court Championships and will play his opening match at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club on Monday at 12 p.m. against the winner of the first-round match between James Lievers of Escondido, and Leon Bax of Salinas, California.
Former tournament champion Stuart Duncan of Laguna Hills, CA is seeded second in the men’s singles draw. The 45-year-old Duncan won the USTA National 45 Hard Court Championships last month in Westlake Village, CA. Duncan, the 2018 USTA National 40 Hard Court champion, will take on Michael Hamilton of San Anselmo, CA, in his opening match on Monday at 12:30 p.m.
Four-time defending singles champion Hiromi Sasano of San Diego is the top seed in the women’s singles division. Sasano, a tennis teaching professional at San Diego’s Balboa Tennis Club, received a first-round bye. She will play her first match on Tuesday at 9 a.m. against Francesca Kornberg of La Jolla.
The starting times for each day of the tournament will be as follows:
9 a.m. – Monday, Nov. 29
8 a.m. – Tuesday, Nov. 30 through Friday, Dec. 3
9 a.m. – Saturday, Dec. 4 and Sunday, Dec. 5
Tournament competition is slated for Men and Women in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events for players 40 and over (players must reach or exceed the age of 40 at any time in this calendar year to be eligible). Participants will include former touring pros and the nation’s strongest players in this age group.
The USTA National Father/Son and Grandfather/Grandson Hard Court Doubles Championships will also be contested at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club from December 3 through December 5.
La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club welcome tennis spectators to the tournament with free admission. Onsite parking is available for a nominal fee.
