Chula Vista, CA–A motorist involved in a two-vehicle collision died after he lost control of his vehicle and overturned down an embankment on Interstate 805 on Monday in Chula Vista, authorities said.

Sheriff’s deputies received a call at around 2:11 a.m. of a collision involving a Honda Civic driven by a 28-year-old male from San Diego, and a red Hyundai Elantra driven by a 21-year-old man from Chula Vista. The incident occurred southbound, north of Division Street, according to authorities.

The driver of the Honda lost control after the initial collision and overturned down the embankment resulting in fatal injuries. The driver of the Hyundai was not injured in the collision and remained on scene. Both vehicles were solo occupants.

Toxicology reports and identification are pending through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office to determine if the driver of the Honda was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
