Motorcyclist, Passenger Seriously Injured In Carlsbad Traffic Collision

March 30, 2019 By sdcnews

CARLSBAD–A man was arrested for DUI Friday after he struck a motorcyclist and his passenger near the Coaster Station in Carlsbad, the Carlsbad Police Department said.

At about 9:45 p.m. police officers responded to the 2800 block of State Street regarding a report of a vehicle that struck a motorcyclist with a passenger. Upon arrival, officers located one male and one female both lying in the roadway with serious injuries. The 28-year-old male and 26-year-old female were transported by fire department paramedics to a trauma hospital.

The motorcyclist has been identified as a 28 year-old male. The motorcycle passenger has been identified as a 26 year-old female.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the  67- year-old driver of a white Mercedes attempted to make a left turn from the driveway of the Coaster Station at 2800 State Street. The motorcyclist was traveling southbound on State Street and was broadsided by the driver of the Mercedes. The collision caused the motorcyclist and passenger to be ejected from the motorcycle. The driver of the Mercedes was evaluated and arrested for DUI. The motorcyclist may also had been under the influence of and alcoholic beverage.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.
