NATIONAL CITY—A motorcyclist was killed after he collided with pickup truck on Interstate 805 early Friday morning.
At 1:55 a.m., approximately four motorcycles were traveling northbound on Interstate 805, south of Sweetwater Road in excess of 100 miles per hour. As the high speed motorcycles approached Sweetwater Road, they attempted to overtake slower moving traffic.
The two lead motorcycles successfully passed slower moving traffic and continued northbound. The third motorcycle, a black 2007 Yamaha collided into the rear of a Dodge Ram pickup truck. The force of the collision caused the motorcyclist to be ejected off the motorcycle. As a result, the rider was fatality injured.
The fourth motorcycle, a white 2003 Honda, swerved to avoid the initial collision and lost control of his motorcycle causing the rider to become ejected. After this collision, the rider of the Honda got into another vehicle and fled the scene. This unknown party is still outstanding.
The rider of the Yamaha, a 27-year-old male from National City, was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel at approximately 2:15 a.m. It is unknown whether alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this collision, pending toxicology results. This incident is still under investigation.
