SANTA YSABEL—A 21 year-old Lakeside male was killed after his motorcycle struck a Nissan pickup on State Route 78 on Monday.
California Highway Patrol officers say a 86 year-old male was driving his 1989 Nissan pickup westbound on SR-78, just east of SR-79 in Santa Ysabel.
Approximately three vehicles behind the Nissan was a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle being driven by the motorcyclist. The Nissan driver began to slow and activated his left turn signal as to make a left turn in the gas station, located at 30351 Hwy 78. Just as the Nissan driver was making his left turn, the motorcyclist began to pass to the left over the double solid yellow lines directly in the path of the Nissan. Both the driver of the Nissan and the motorcycle applied their brakes and the right front of the motorcycle struck the left side of the Nissan. The motorcyclist was ejected and struck the ground. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was not injured.
No alcohol or drugs are suspected in the collision.
