Metro arson strike team showcases educational PSA regarding homemade explosives

May 25, 2010 By Staff

SAN DIEGO–In 2008 and 2009, a rash of homemade explosive and over-pressure devices were made by students apparently as end of the year pranks. These devices were deployed on several San Diego Schools campuses. The majority of the students involved in these incidents were academically successful, with promising futures. Students caught engaging in this activity were arrested, lost scholarships, and denied entry into the military.

In an effort to prevent students from making homemade explosives this year, and jeopardizing their academic futures, the Metro Arson Strike Team (MAST), and the Bomb Squad created a Public Service Announcement (PSA).

The PSA is designed to educate students and parents on the legal ramifications of engaging in homemade over-pressure devices. The PSA is available at all San Diego City Middle and High Schools. The PSA is also available on YouTube under “SDFD Bomb Squad,” and on Facebook –Page under “San Diego Fire Department Arson-Bomb Squad.”

DVD’s of the PSA are also available to the media upon request through MAST.
