CAMP PENDLETON–Camp Pendleton base officials released the name of a marine who was killed in Afghanistan.
Corporal Christopher J. Boyd, was killed by an IED blast while conducting dismounted combat operations against enemy forces in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, Thursday.
Boyd, a 22-year-old rifleman from Palatine, Ill. was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Boyd enlisted in the Marine Corps June 13, 2006. This was his first combat deployment. He previously deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit to the western Pacific in 2009.
His personal service awards include the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
