Carlsbad, CA–A man with an active felony warrant led authorities in a vehicle pursuit Monday morning in the north county, officials said.
Carlsbad police were involved in a pursuit of a stolen vehicle which led them into Encinitas. Sheriff’s deputies took over the pursuit which continued southbound on Coast Highway 101, with speeds at or slightly above the speed limit.
The driver, later identified as 42-year-old Brandon Scroggins, also had an active felony warrant for his arrest. Several spike strips were deployed to try to disable the vehicle, but the attempts were unsuccessful, Carlsbad police said in a news release.
The pursuit was eventually terminated in Escondido when Scroggins abandoned the car and ran. Escondido police and Sheriff’s deputies caught up with Scroggins and took him into custody. As the vehicle came to rest, it collided with a fence and the fence sustained minor damage.
Scroggins was booked into the Vista Detention facility on charges of vehicle theft, felony evading, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the felony warrant.
