Oceanside, CA–A motorist, who led police in a brief vehicle pursuit in Oceanside, was arrested Sunday evening in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in the city, authorities said Monday.
Oceanside police responded to a 5:27 p.m. medical emergency call at the 100 block of Ely Street. When officers arrived at the location paramedics began life-saving measures to aid a male adult gunshot victim. The victim, identified as 20-year-old Samuel Pina, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Oceanside police conducted a search of the suspect vehicle involved in the incident. Officers in the area spotted a vehicle thought to be connected to the incident. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled. A brief pursuit ensued and ended when the suspect collided with another vehicle. The suspect then attempted to flee on foot. Officers were able to quickly apprehend him.
Authorities identified the suspect as 23-year-old Adrian Pina. He was booked at the Vista Detention Facility for suspicion of murder.
