Man Suspected In Recent Credit Union Robberies Arrested

March 9, 2019 By sdcnews

SAN DIEGO–A man suspected of robbing several credit unions between December 2018 and March 2019 was arrested Tuesday, said authorities.

Karl Doron, age 44, was charged in a complaint filed this week in San Diego Superior Court with seven counts of bank robbery; two counts of attempted bank robbery; and one count of carrying a loaded firearm in a public place.

On March 5, Doron allegedly entered the Navy Federal Credit Union located at 6755 Mira Mesa Boulevard, demanded and received cash from the credit union employees. Based on a joint investigation by agents and detectives, information was developed that identified Doron as the suspect in several robberies in the San Diego area. As a result, a team of officers and agents were actively surveilling Doron on March 5. Immediately upon exiting the credit union, Doron was arrested without incident by the law enforcement team. A search incident to his arrest revealed that Doron was carrying a loaded handgun.

Doron appeared Friday in San Diego County Superior Court.

The investigation was conducted by the San Diego Police Department and the FBI’s Violent Crime Task Force. Significant assistance was provided by the Chula Vista Police Department.
