July 1, 2010 By Staff

OCEANSIDE–This morning, a northbound Coaster train carrying approximately 50 passengers struck and killed a 60 year old male who stood on the tracks as the train passed through the Cassidy Street intersection. Preliminary reports indicate that this was a suicide. Oceanside Police and San Diego County Sherriff’s Deputies are investigating.

All train service in the vicinity of the incident was temporarily halted. Immediately following the incident, passengers on the northbound Coaster train were transported via charter bus to the Oceanside Transit Center. Southbound Coaster passengers headed toward San Diego were transported via Amtrak after a parallel track was reopened.

Passengers waiting for the12:45 p.m. northbound Coaster departure from San Diego were placed aboard a northbound Amtrak train which departed San Diego at 1:02 p.m. Amtrak will transport the passengers to Oceanside, stopping at all of the Coaster stations along the way.
