Man injured in vehicle collision

August 18, 2010 By Staff

SAN DIEGO–A man died Tuesday afternoon after his vehicle rolled over on Interstate 8.

California Highway Patrol received a call of a major injury collision westbound I-8 at West Willows Rd. According to witnesses and physical evidence, a 2005 white Dodge Caravan was traveling westbound on I-8 in the #1 lane at approximately 70 m.p.h. For an unknown reason, the Caravan drifted into the center divide. The driver overcorrected to the right, causing the caravan to roll over. The vehicle came to rest on the north shoulder.

The driver sustained major injuries and was transported by air ambulance in critical condition. He later succumbed from his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver has yet to be positively identified. At this time there is no evidence that alcohol or drugs were a factor. He was properly restrained at the time of the collision.

The #2 lane of I-8 was temporarily closed for clean up and investigation.
