Man dies three months later after he was shot in Jamul

May 22, 2021 By sdcnews

Jamul, CA–Authorities are investigating the death of a man who was a victim of a shooting earlier this year in Jamul.

On February 15, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in the 15700 block of Lyons Valley Road in Jamul for a shooting. The victim, 62-year-old Bruce Carl Mueller, was transported to a local area hospital for treatment. The suspect, 64-year-old Guillermo Vallin Morales, of Jamul was armed with a handgun and refused to exit the residence. Several hours later, Morales was located dead inside the residence.

On February 17, the Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on Morales. The cause of his death was a penetrating gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death was suicide. His family has been notified of his death.

Mueller was treated and was eventually released from the hospital. The Rancho San Diego Station Detective Unit continued to investigate the case. Detectives determined Mueller had told Morales to move out of the Lyons Valley Road residence. An argument ensued and Morales shot Mueller.

On May 7, Mueller checked himself back into a local hospital. Mueller’s health declined and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

On May 14, the Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on Mueller. His family was notified of his death. The preliminary cause of death was complications from a penetrating gunshot wound to the torso and the manner of death was homicide. Mueller is a resident of the city of San Diego.

Despite the case being solved, the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit has assumed responsibility of the investigation due to procedural reasons.
