IMPERIAL BEACH–An experienced 27 year-old male parachutist was fatally injured after he jumped from an aircraft and unexpectedly crashed on the ground, Sheriff’s deputies said Friday.
Deputies say the1:31 p.m. accident occurred at the glider port at 13531 Otay Lakes Road.
A witness on the ground watched as the male descended. While the male was approaching the ground, the witness saw the male maneuvering the parachute’s toggles but he continued to travel at a high rate of speed before impacting the ground. CPR was performed, but the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The parachutist’s death will be investigated by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
