Man Crashes Vehicle Into House Damaging Gas Line

May 23, 2016 By sdcnews

OCEANSIDE–An 85 year-old man lost control of his vehicle and struck the exterior wall of a residence, Oceanside police said Sunday evening.

The man was driving a Toyota sedan west bound in the 3600 block of Vista Campana. For an unknown reason, the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the residence. The driver was uninjured, but he was transported to Tri City Medical Center by paramedics out of an abundance of caution. Residents inside the house were not injured.

The structure sustained major damage which included a ruptured gas line. The damaged gas line forced the evacuation of several nearby residences. The gas line repairs were expected to take several hours. City of Oceanside building inspectors responded to assess the severity of the damage to the structure.

The investigation revealed alcohol was a factor in the collision and the driver was issued a citation for driving under the influence. He was not booked into jail as a result of his medical condition.
