SANTEE–A man is in custody following a carjacking and chase in Santee Friday.
The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. in the 9800 block of Mission Gorge Road. The man threatened to kill a woman and the family of the 77-year-old elderly victim. He struck the female victim, removed her out of the car and drove away with her purse and cell phone.
Sheriff’s deputies and La Mesa police officers located the man, identified as 30-year-old Chris DiSalvo, sitting in the stolen car in the 4600 block of Palm Drive in La Mesa. Upon seeing law enforcement DiSalvo took off, but crashed into a tree. He then ran into an apartment complex. Authorities found DiSalvo hiding in a stairwell. He was arrested without incident.
DiSalvo told deputies he had taken drugs. Based on symptoms seen and as a precaution, deputies administered a dose of Naloxone, a lifesaving nasal spray that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. DiSalvo was taken to a hospital. Once he’s medically cleared, he will be booked on several serious felony charges to include carjacking.
