Los Angeles Man Arrested After Assaulting Oceanside Police Officers

August 4, 2016 By sdcnews

OCEANSIDE–An 34-year-old Los Angeles resident Tuesday was arrested after he attacked a couple of Oceanside police officers, and tried to take one of their tasers during a routine stop in downtown Oceanside.

According to Oceanside police the attack occurred just before 2:30 p.m. in the 100 block The South Strand. Police officers contacted Christopher Barrios for a minor city code violation. Barrios provided the officers with false identifying information. Without warning Barrios attacked the officers and attempted to take one of the officer’s tasers. After a brief struggle, Barrios fled from the officers and ran to the 100 block of South Myers Street where he barricaded himself inside the laundry room of an apartment complex.

San Diego Sheriff’s Department helicopter arrived to assist and pepper balls were deployed in an attempt to remove Barrios from the laundry room. Ultimately, Barrios surrendered on his own and was taken into custody. Barrios was treated at Tri-City Medical Center for minor injuries before being booked into Vista Detention Facility for felony assault on an officer and multiple misdemeanor violations. The officer received minor injuries during the assault but did not require emergency medical treatment.
