SAN DIEGO–Words Alive, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing literacy support services to low-income, at-risk children, teens and families, will celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the “Mission Federal Share Your Love of Reading” event on Feb. 13.
Launched by Rolling Readers in 2012, the campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of literacy and reading aloud to children with elected officials, local executives, media personalities and local celebrities acting as honorary readers. Words Alive, which welcomed Rolling Readers to its family of programs in January 2014, will continue this tradition in the organization’s preschool, elementary and high school classrooms.
“Thanks to the generous support of our title sponsor Mission Federal Credit Union for the second year, we’re once again making Share Your Love of Reading a month-long campaign to further our mission to engage underserved children, teens and families in reading,” said Patrick Stewart, executive director of Words Alive. “We encourage San Diegans to help us share this love by making a donation during the event.”
Some of the honorary readers who will be sharing their love of reading in classrooms throughout San Diego County during Valentine’s week include San Diego Interim Mayor Todd Gloria, San Diego County Supervisor Dave Roberts, City Attorney Jan Goldsmith, Actor Leonardo Nam, Fox 5 Reporter Heather Ford, KUSI Reporter Brandon Stone, Mission Fed Executives and many other local figures.
All proceeds from the Mission Federal Share Your Love of Reading event will support Words Alive’s core programs that foster a love of reading in children, teens and adults in San Diego County.
