SAN DIEGO–Over the last few days, the San Diego Sheriff’s Department has received several telephone calls from persons inquiring about suspicious telephone calls they have received.

In these calls, a male individual identifies himself as a member the Sheriff’s department. The caller, who impersonates a peace officer, claims that the person answering the phone or a family member, has an outstanding warrant for their arrest, and that an immediate cash payment must be made to avoid arrest.

Sheriff Gore would like to impress upon members of the community that the Sheriff’s department will not call anyone seeking payment for outstanding arrest warrants. Persons are encouraged to report such calls to the Sheriff’s department at (858) 565-5200 or to their local police agency.
