Oceanside, CA–A male juvenile was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of the stabbing death of a 16-old-boy in the west parking lot near Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Oceanside, authorities said.
Oceanside police investigators have identified the suspect, but his identity has not been released because he is a minor. The victim was identified as Justin Ferguson of Oceanside.
On Tuesday evening, Oceanside Police Department received a report at 5 p.m. of a stabbing victim in the area of Mesa Drive and Cinnamon Way in the west parking lot near Martin Luther King Jr. Park at 4300 Mesa Drive.
The teen was driven a short distance out of the immediate area by an acquaintance who came to a stop near the park where responding officers located the boy. He had sustained life-threatening stab wounds to the chest and was transported to Tri-City Medical Center for treatment, Oceanside Police Department Public Information Officer Jennifer Atenza stated in a news release.
Despite life-saving measures attempted by medical staff, the boy died of his injuries just after 11 p.m.
