OCEANSIDE–A structure fire Tuesday morning damaged an Oceanside fire station that displaced five firefighters.
The fire was reported by motorists shortly before 10 a.m. at Fire Station Three in the 3100 block of Oceanside Boulevard and El Camino Real.
About 27 firefighters from Oceanside and Carlsbad arrived to the scene and discovered heavy smoke coming from the two-story station. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire. There was no one at the station when the blaze broke out, according to Oceanside Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Stein.
Stein said the fire originated in the back of the dorm room on the second floor next to a furnace. The rooms sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. There was little damage to the station’s first floor.

The five fire crews will be relocated at other stations in the city.
“In my 27-year career we’ve had not had a fire at a fire station in Oceanside, I can tell you that,” Battalion Chief Scott Stein said.
“This is really a hit to the city because it is centrally located. This is the most central fire station in the city,” Stein said.
The Vista Fire Department will investigate the incident.
