San Diego, CA–A male pedestrian walking within the traffic lanes of State Route 163 southbound from University Avenue on-ramp in San Diego was struck by a vehicle on Friday afternoon, California Highway Patrol said.

CHP officers received a call around 2:13 p.m. about a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the traffic lanes. Officers reported a silver Toyota sedan, driven by a 65-year-old man from Chula Vista, struck the pedestrian in the traffic lanes. 

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital for major non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota remained on the scene following the collision, CHP Officer Jesse Matias said in a news release.   

Traffic lanes were affected for approximately one hour during an on-scene investigation. The driver of the Toyota was uninjured. Investigators said drugs or alcohol were not determined to be a factor in the incident. 

The cause of this collision and the sequence of events is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol San Diego area.
