OCEANSIDE–A motorcyclist Tuesday was killed after he slammed against another vehicle on State Route 76 in Oceanside.
The 42-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene from his injuries, according Oceanside police department.
Police officers responded to several calls of a collision involving a motorcycle westbound State Route 76 just east of Foussat. At the time of the collision, it was dark and the roads were still wet from the heavy rain the night before. Traffic was backed up on State Route 76 between Douglas Drive and Foussat Road.
According to several witnesses, traffic was at a stop and go with a maximum speed of approximately 15 miles per hour approaching Foussat Road. The motorcycle, a 2016 Harley Davidson, was traveling in between the number 1 and number 2 lane, (splitting traffic) at a speed significantly higher than other vehicle traffic. For an unknown reason, the motorcyclist locked up the rear brakes on the motorcycle, lost control, and rear ended a 2005 Ford sedan that was stopped in the number two lane for traffic. The motorcycle then bounced off the Ford and collided with a 2007 Nissan sedan in the number one lane, causing the motorcyclist to be ejected.
Based on the preliminary investigation, due to the conditions of the road at the time, speed was a factor in the collision, according to authorities.
The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is conducting the investigation.
