SAN DIEGO–South Bay Community Services received $75,000, courtesy of Seven Mile Casino on Tuesday following the completion of the inaugural Big 24 Hour Giveback event.
Over the course of the 24-hour event, which started on February 28 at 6 a.m., over a thousand community members walked through Seven Mile Casino’s door, triggering a $100 per person donation to the non-profit organization.
“It is our great pleasure to announce that we met our fundraising goal of $75,000 through the inaugural Big-24 Hour Giveback,” said Masis Kevorkian, one of Seven Mile Casino’s owners. “South Bay Community Services is an incredibly unique organization that works tirelessly to serve those who need it most. This event helped us bring our community together for a great cause, evident in how quickly we were able to meet our purpose.”
The Casino’s $75,000 pledge was quickly met, hitting the benchmark within 12 hours of the event’s start. Community members, local elected officials and South Bay Community Services representatives and volunteers were on hand throughout the day to join in on the festivities.
“South Bay Community Services is honored to have been selected as the charity partner for this opening event,” said Kathy Lembo, President and CEO of South Bay Community Services. “Our community partnerships are crucial to help us continue to provide the services the families and children we serve depend on.”
For over 40 years, South Bay Community Services, a Chula Vista-based nonprofit, has provided critical programs to support children and families undergoing stressful life events such as domestic violence and abuse across the region. The organization works diligently to provide long-term solutions that help break the cycle of violence.
“The Big 24-Hour Giveback is a fantastic example of what our community is all about,” said Mayor Mary Salas. “People from across the region coming together to support an incredible organization that is dedicated to helping improve the lives of others each and every day. South Bay Community Services is an extremely worthy recipient of this generous contribution, which will help provide services and bring back hope to many children and families in the months and years to come.”
