ESCONDIDO—A woman allegedly driving at a high rate of speed off Highway 78 Friday was killed after her vehicle crashed into concrete barrier wall, traffic investigators

The collision occurred at 9:35 p.m. at Nordahl and Highway 78. Sheriff’s deputies and San Marcos Fire paramedics discovered a single vehicle into a concrete barrier wall. The vehicle was occupied by a 40-year-old female Escondido resident. The female suffered major trauma from the collision and died at the scene. She was the sole occupant in the vehicle.

Based on the witness statements and physical evidence at the scene it appears the vehicle, a 2013 Nissan Juke, exited the off ramp to Highway 78 eastbound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued across the intersection at Nordahl and impacted a concrete barrier wall.

Alcohol or drug impairment does not appear to be a factor in this collision, Sheriff’s investigators say.

The investigation is ongoing.
