County health issues beach advisories and closures

By SDCN Staff

San Diego, CA–County health officials have updated their beach and closure advisories for San Diego County beaches.

San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality lifted the water contact closure for Spindrift Drive and Princess Street in La Jolla, and the water quality advisory for the Lifeguard Tower area in Coronado. Recent testing confirms that bacteria levels at these locations meet state health standards, and the public may safely resume water activities.

Advisories were issued for Fanuel Park, the northwest shoreline of Fiesta Island, and the Tecolote Shores Swim Area in Mission Bay. Water samples indicate elevated bacteria levels that exceed state health standards. Swimmers are advised that entering the water at these locations may pose a risk of illness.

The La Jolla Children’s Pool and Bonita Cove remain under advisory due to continued high bacteria levels. The public is urged to avoid water contact in these areas.

The ocean shoreline from the U.S.-Mexico border north to Avenida Lunar in Coronado—including Tijuana Slough, Imperial Beach, and Silver Strand—is still closed to water contact. Testing shows these waters remain contaminated by sewage. The public is strongly advised to avoid entering the water until further notice.

For updates, residents and visitors call the County’s 24-hour Beach Closure and Advisory Hotline.
