In this hour of great tragedy, we extend our prayers and condolences to the families of those who were killed today in the shooting in Arizona. Our thoughts remain with those who remain hospitalized, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
Regardless of political ideology, we are united in our horror over the violence against those who are called to serve at any level, and members of the general public who participate in the Democratic process.
We cannot allow our public servants to become targets of threats and violence. We must condemn violence and the threat of any violence, immediately, every time. As Speaker Boehner said, ‘An attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve.’
We must not allow cowards who seek to address political differences with violence to threaten our commitment to the principles of our Democracy. In San Diego, we stand together today and say that violence has no place in politics, not here, and never again.
