SAN DIEGO–Casa Familiar, Ocean View Church, the San Diego Police Department, and San Diego District Attorney’s Office have teamed up to help reduce the incidents of gun violence in San Diego.
Ocean View Church will be the site October 29 of a gun buyback campaign in the community.
Gift cards will be offered in exchange for guns, no questions asked. Participants will receive $50 for hand guns, $75 for rifles and shotguns, and $100 for assault weapons.
Authorities says all weapons must be operational. Explosives, ammunition or inert devices will not be accepted. Weapons must be be transported in a trunk, and unloaded by an officer.
The gun buyback runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2460 Palm Avenue in San Diego.
Gun violence is a leading cause of premature death in the United States. It kill almost 30,000 people and cause 60,000 injuries each year.
