Lane Closures Planned For Interstate Interstate 8

November 1, 2016 By sdcnews

SAN DIEGO–Phased lane closures will occur on Interstate 8 (I-8) just east of Interstate 15 (I-15) starting at 8 p.m. Sunday and continuing through the following week.

The closures are needed so that maintenance crews can repair and reinforce the roadway from the effects of a small sinkhole on the shoulder.

The closures will occur on I-8 from just west of Mission Gorge Road/Fairmount Avenue to just west of I-15, as follows:

  • Eastbound I-8:  On Sunday from 8 p.m. to midnight, some lanes of eastbound I-8 will be closed, with full closure of the freeway from midnight to 4 a.m. Monday. Detour signs will direct traffic to exit at Mission Gorge Road/Fairmount Avenue and back onto eastbound I-8.
  • Westbound I-8:  On Monday from 8 p.m. to midnight, some lanes of westbound I-8 will be closed, with full closure of the freeway from midnight to 4 a.m. Tuesday. Detour signs will direct traffic towards southbound State Route 15 (SR-15). Motorists should keep left to continue to westbound I-8.

In addition, following the above closures, intermittent closure of some lanes of eastbound I-8 will occur Tuesday through Friday between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. each day.

In the event of rain or the threat of rain, the above work will be rescheduled. Motorists can expect delays and are reminded to slow down when driving through highway work zones.
