La Mesa hosting free walking event

January 27, 2010 By sdcnews

LA MESA–The City of La Mesa is offering free walking tours for beginner, intermediate or advanced walkers. Participants can choose different routes according to fitness levels.

Fun and unstructured volunteer groups get together each week for walks. This is a great way to meet new people and enjoy walking. The “Stride” – an intermediate level five mile route with slight hills – meets at Jackson Park on Saturdays at 8 a.m. The “Challenge” – an advanced level three and a half mile route with hills and steps – meets at Highwood Park on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:15 p.m.

Wear proper walking shoes, bring a water bottle, and check with your doctor first before starting any type of exercise program. For evening walks, bring a flashlight.

For more information, call La Mesa Community Services at (619) 667-1300, or visit www.cityoflamesa.com (City Walks & Urban Hikes) to get free walking trails map. Maps are also available at the kiosks at Jackson and La Mesita Parks.
