San Diego, CA–La Jolla Music Society SummerFest has announced a lineup of artists slated to perform at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center in a month-long program of concerts.
Twenty of the artists and six of the ensembles performing in SummerFest 2022 are making La Jolla Music Society debuts, including the Grammy Award-winning international star countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo. He will appear in an evening with Cécile McLorin Salvant celebrating the music of Kurt Weill, part of this year’s Synergy Initiative. Costanzo comes to SummerFest fresh from his return to the title role in Philip Glass’ Akhnaten at the Metropolitan Opera, in a production that shot him to international stardom in 2019 and won the Grammy for Best Opera Recording in 2022.
Returning in his fourth year, Music Director Inon Barnatan has created an ambitious program, evocatively titled “Under the Influence,” exploring the muses that seduced and inspired some of the greatest composers in musical history.
“I’m thrilled to bring back the Synergy Series, which this summer will feature collaborations between jazz musicians, opera stars, dancers, and choreographers in a truly unique and exciting week of immersive events,” says Music Director Inon Barnatan. “I’m also beyond thrilled that one of today’s most exciting composers, Caroline Shaw, the youngest composer ever to win a Pulitzer Prize and a superstar of the music world, is joining us as Composer-in-Residence. Besides presenting her new work, co-commissioned by LJMS, she’ll also curate the Takeover at The JAI concert and join as a performer in several concerts.”
La Jolla Music Society’s Fellowship Artists, selected from all over the world through a rigorous application process, will join these world-class artists in performances of the highest quality, aiding in their professional development and artistic inspiration.
All performances are scheduled from July 29 to August 26 at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, located at 7600 Fay Avenue in San Diego.
