Imperial Beach, CA–A juvenile was stabbed during a fight between multiple juveniles at a south county park Wednesday in Imperial Beach, authorities said.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report around 2:40 p.m. of the stabbing at Veterans Park at 1085 8th Street.
The fight escalated with a report of one juvenile getting stabbed in the abdomen. Upon arrival, on-scene deputies found a 16-year-male with a stab wound to the lower abdomen area and numerous other juveniles lingering around while others fled. Deputies rendered immediate aid to the victim.
Once paramedics arrived, the victim was transported to UCSD Hospital to undergo emergency surgery. Minutes after the incident, the mother of the alleged suspect called Sheriff’s dispatch to state that her son was involved in the incident and provided their location. After deputies arrived, the suspect admitted to stabbing the victim with a knife in self-defense, despite preliminary evidence to the contrary. Two knives were seized from the residence, according to the Sheriff’s office.
The suspect was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and booked into Juvenile Hall in San Diego.
The victim is in stable condition and is expected to survive his injuries. Detectives are continuing the investigation.
