POWAY–The American College of Radiology (ACR) has designated Palomar Pomerado Health’s (PPH) Jean McLaughlin Women’s Center for Health and Healing a “Breast Imaging Center of Excellence,” the first and only Center of Excellence in North County.
The Women’s Center, which opened in 2008, successfully received voluntary accreditation in Breast Ultrasound, Ultrasound-Guided Breast Biopsy and Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, and already held the mandatory Mammography Accreditation, to complete the Center of Excellence award. The accreditation process took six months to complete, and demonstrates high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
“In striving to be recognized nationally for the highest quality of clinical care, the accreditation truly reflects our commitment to providing quality services to women of San Diego County,” Sheila Brown FACHE, Chief Clinical Outreach Officer.
The Jean McLaughlin Women’s Center provides a wide range of services like education and support, with state-of-the-art technologies for diagnosis and treatment with personalized, compassionate care delivered in a peaceful, healing environment.
To receive the “Breast Imaging Center of Excellence” award, the Women’s Center had to earn accreditation in all of the ACR voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program. Award applications are evaluated by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who evaluate qualifications of personnel, equipment performance, effectiveness of quality control measures, quality of clinical images and ultimately the quality of patient care. The purpose of the accreditation program is to set quality standards for practices and help continuously improve upon the quality of care given to patients.
