EL CAJON—A infant left inside a hot car outside an apartment complex has died, El Cajon police says.
On Saturday, police officers responded to a 911 call of a 4 month old baby not breathing at 545 N. Mollison. When officers arrived they immediately began CPR on the infant until paramedics arrived. Fire personnel immediately transported the infant who was unresponsive to an area hospital for treatment. The infant passed away shortly after arrival.
Officers say the preliminary investigation into the infant’s death appears to be accidental. The child’s parents are cooperating with investigators.
As a result of this criminal negligence both parents were arrested and later booked into County Jail. The father, Israel Soto, 30, and the mother, Jessica Quezada 23, were charged with willful cruelty to a child with injury/ death. Quezada Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The parent’s other three children ages 3, 2 and 1, were taken into protective custody by Child Protection Services.
The County Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to determine the exact cause of death of the infant at this time.
