CAMP PENDLETON–Two Marines were killed Monday afternoon when their twin-engine, two-seat AH-1W Cobra attack helicopter crashed during a training exercise in Camp Pendleton. The helicopter belonged to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.
Camp Pendleton Marine Corps officials said the crash set off a 120 acres wild fire in the southeast portion of the base near the border with De Luz. Camp Pendleton Fire Department, four air tankers, four helicopters tankers, three type-3 strike teams, four hand crews, and one forward air control aircraft responded to the crash site. The blaze is 80 percent contained
