SANTEE–A staff member of Santana High School alerted authorities after she found a handgun in the school’s parking lot.
On Wednesday morning, the staff member was walking through the faculty parking lot and discovered broken glass on the ground. As she went to clear the debris, she observed the gun on the ground, according to Sheriff’s deputies.
The School Resource deputy was notified and he took possession of the firearm. At the time the firearm was discovered, no children were present. The Sheriff’s department is conducting an investigation into who the gun belongs to and why it was on school grounds.
The Sheriff’s department has not received any threats for the school, and believes this is an isolated incident.
