FALLBROOK–The Friends of the Fallbrook Library are seeking applicants for an art assistant position at the new art-themed Fallbrook Library. The individual will work closely with the artists chosen to display their art in rotating exhibits at the library throughout the year. The art assistant will be involved in the coordination and organization of eight to twelve art exhibits a year at the new Fallbrook Library opening in January 2011. The new library has an art-themed focus with many original commissioned permanent pieces of art and is expected to be the “cultural center” of Fallbrook. The art assistant can work from home interviewing artists about themselves and their art for display and create individual signage for each piece to be displayed. Onsite the art assistant will consider lighting, theme, space, etc. when deciding on the placement of the art for each exhibit. The art assistant will also be responsible for hanging and taking down the exhibits. The applicant should be organized, efficient, and have good written and oral communication skills. Applicants should have a background in art, art history, art administration, museum studies, or related fields. The applicant should have the ability to work independently and be prepared to make at least a one year commitment to the position. The County of San Diego will require a background check of any applicant prior to the library’s acceptance of any individual for the art assistant position. The library will pay a $100 stipend per show.
