SAN DIEGO–Local nonprofit Fresh Start Surgical Gifts hosted its 27th annual Celebrity Golf Classic on March 3 and 4 at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club.

The event raised $215,000, surpassing its fundraising goal of $200,000, and was hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro, best known for his role in “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” and “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”

The golf tournament kicked off on Sunday with a cocktail reception, dinner party and live/silent auction. On Monday, each participating foursome was paired with a celebrity or professional athlete for a day of golf.

“What makes this charity event unique is that 100 percent of all donations will go directly to our medical program,” said Fresh Start CEO Shari Brasher. “With the community’s support, we are able to continue providing Surgery Weekends throughout the year where children receive free-of-cost surgeries and related healthcare services.”

The event proceeds will benefit Fresh Start’s mission to transform the lives of disadvantaged infants, children and teens with physical deformities caused by birth defects, accidents, abuse or disease through the gift of reconstructive surgery and related healthcare services. Fresh Start also treats common conditions that cause low-self esteem among children, including but not limited to: scars or birthmarks, misshapen ears and Strabismus (crossed eyes).
