El Cajon, CA–The El Cajon Police Department says Wednesday the Flock Safety automated license plate reading (ALPR) program was instrumental in locating a reported stolen vehicle, and arresting a suspect in connection with the thefts.
The ALPR cameras sent a real-time crime alert to El Cajon police this month about the stolen vehicle in the city.
El Cajon police received a Flock Safety Alert at 2:45 p.m. on a vehicle previously stolen from San Diego. Officers located the vehicle in the 400 block of El Cajon Boulevard. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and found to be in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
The suspect, 42-year-old Concepcion Balanzar, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and the drug charges, and booked into County Jail.
“As we are seeing crime increase across this state due to ineffective criminal justice reform, the El Cajon Police Department will continue to use every tool available to us to hold criminals accountable who victimize our community. If you drive a stolen vehicle in the City of El Cajon we will locate you, arrest you, and put you in jail,” said Chief Mike Moulton.
The incident is under investigation.
