Sheriff’s deputies from the Rancho San Diego Station responded to an interrupted vehicle burglary on Via Antigua in the unincorporated area of La Mesa.
A deputy saw a white Honda Civic drive away from the scene at a high rate of speed. The vehicle collided into a parked car as it accelerated away from the area. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle but it would not yield to his lights and siren. A short traffic pursuit ensued. As the suspect vehicle attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Fuerte Heights Lane from Jamacha Road, it failed to make the corner. The vehicle drove up and collided into a dirt embankment and eventually got stuck in a drainage ditch. Five occupants inside the vehicle exited and ran away. Four were immediately apprehended by responding deputies. With the assistance of a Sheriff’s K-9, a fifth occupant was located and taken into custody. There were no injuries as a result of the collision.
The registered owner of the vehicle was contacted by San Diego police. It was confirmed the vehicle was an unreported stolen vehicle. Detectives from the Rancho San Diego Station were called out to assist with the investigation. The California Highway patrol is handling the traffic collision investigations. c
