First Transit bus operator arrested for suspicion of DUI

June 1, 2010 By Staff

OCEANSIDE–A bus operator employed by First Transit was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of DUI while carrying passengers from Oceanside to Encinitas on route 309. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.

“This is a very serious matter and we have advised First Transit that we will be conducting an independent investigation, “said NCTD Executive Director Matt Tucker.

Transit officials say NCTD and its contractors view safety as a top priority. They are required by the Federal Transit Administration to maintain a rigorous drug and alcohol testing policy and procedures. These procedures are audited independently by federal and state agencies.

“We take this allegation seriously, and we will be very aggressive in investigating and taking whatever action is necessary to prevent a reoccurrence of this event,” said Matt Tucker. “We will withhold further comment until the investigations have been completed.”
