Oceanside, CA–Firefighters contained a 75-acre brush fire Sunday afternoon that threatened homes, and forced the evacuation of residents near the Tuley Canyon area.
The blaze was reported at 12:21 p.m. on a hillside of the canyon near Benet Road, and northwest of Wala Drive.
Oceanside police evacuated residents at Rimhurst, Wala, Shadowtree Drives, and roads east of the fire. There were also road closures on Benet and Foussat Roads, authorities said.
Fire crews from Oceanside, Cal Fire San Diego, and North County Fire Protection District battled the blaze on the ground, with air tankers dropping retardant in the area.
Oceanside police later lifted the evacuations, and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
