Long Beach, CA–Federal and state agencies and work crews continue their response Thursday to the coastal oil spill in Orange County.

Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Teams equipped in protective gear, are monitoring, inspecting, and cleaning the beaches to ensure that appropriate cleanup actions are taken. Approximately six miles of shoreline to the north have been cleaned.

As of Thursday, around 5,544 gallons of crude oil were recovered in the water off of Orange County. An estimated 15.67 miles of light oiling was reported along shorelines to the north.

Currently, 35 vessels and five aircrafts scheduling 16 flights per day are monitoring the oil spill in the ocean.

About 12,860 feet of containment boom have been deployed protecting eight sensitive sites from Orange to San Diego counties. So far, response teams have recovered 24 oiled wildlife in Orange county. The wildlife was taken to an animal rehabilitation center for care.

Huntington Beach shorelines and ocean remain closed until further notice. The rest of the beach and bike paths remain open at this time, city officials said Wednesday.

Dana Point was cleared by federal and state officials to reopen on Thursday.

Multiple regulatory agencies are conducting investigations
