Driver Seriously Injured In Traffic Collision

February 28, 2019 By sdcnews

CHULA VISTA–A driver is in serious condition Thursday after his vehicle struck a center median wall on southbound Interstate 805 in Chula Vista, the California Highway Patrol reports.

Shortly before 11 a.m., a white 2005 Hyundai, driven by a 59-year-old man from Tijuana, struck the wall on southbound I-805 south of Telegraph Canyon Road. As a result of the collision the Hyundai struck a Ford F250.

The Hyundai and the Ford remained blocking the number 4 lane. While blocking lanes the Hyundai caught fire. Due to injuries sustained in the collision, the driver of the Hyundai was unable to exit his vehicle.

A good Samaritan assisted the driver out of the Hyundai. The driver of the Hyundai was transported to UCSD Medical Center with major injuries. The driver of the Ford truck sustained no injuries as a result of the collision.

The incident is under investigation.
