San Marcos, CA-A 56-year-old driver died, and four people were injured Monday in a two-vehicle head-on collision in San Marcos, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 4:08 p.m. report of an injury traffic collision near 2709 South Santa Fe Avenue. The two vehicles involved were a silver Toyota minivan and a blue Scion sedan. The driver of the sedan sustained serious injuries and was transported to Palomar Medical Center by the San Marcos Fire Department. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The four occupants of the minivan were transported to Palomar Medical Center and Rady’s Children’s Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The extent of their injuries is unavailable.

It is unknown if speed and/or alcohol were a factor in the collision.

The Sheriff’s Department Traffic Division is investigating the incident.
