LEMON GROVE–A man Saturday driving at a high rate of speed in Lemon Grove died after he crashed his vehicle into a residence’s cinder block fence, Sheriff’s department said.
The collision occurred after 3:30 p.m. at the 3200 block of Sweetwater Road. When deputies arrived at the scene they found an unconscious man lying on the pavement near his green Honda Accord, according to authorities. Paramedics responded to the scene and declared the driver deceased.
Preliminary investigations and witness’ statements revealed the driver of the Honda-Accord was traveling southbound on Sweetwater Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with the cinder block wall of a residence. The force of the impact ejected the driver when the driver’s side door of the vehicle became open as a result of the impact. An inspection of the Honda Accord’s seatbelt revealed it was not in use at the time of the collision. Although alcoholic beverage consumption is not believed to be a factor in the collision, deputies will make a final conclusion on any impairment driving once the autopsy has been completed. The primary collision factor in this collision is believed to be excessive speed.
Next of kin notifications will be made by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
