Encinitas, CA–Seven puppies and adult dogs who left the Mexican state of Sonora early Friday morning will spend the night in Escondido before being transported to the Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas on Saturday morning.
This is the latest lifesaving transfer from Rescue Fenix in Obregon, Sonora, Mexico to San Diego, Rancho Coastal Humane Society spokesman John Van Zante said.
“These dogs were rescued from streets and anywhere else they could find safety,” John Van Zante said. “Many of them would not have survived if they had not been taken to Rescue Fenix in Obregon.”
The dogs include two young adult Shih Tzu mixes (though to be mother and son), a young adult Dachshund mix and a 6-month-old Dachshund mix puppy, a 7-month-old Terrier mix, a 1-year-old Chihuahua, and a 10-month-old Hound mix.
“These dogs have received food and medical care since they were rescued. Now Rescue Fenix is transporting them to one of their officials who lives in Escondido,” Rancho Coastal Humane Society President Judi Sanzo said.
The dogs were transferred to the humane society through the Friends of County Animal Shelters program,” Sanzo said. “They will be temporary guests of Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas until they are available for adoption and we match them with their new, forever families,”
The Rancho Coastal Humane Society medical staff will perform initial examinations when the dogs and puppies arrive. After that, they will be settled into their kennels with food, water, and what could be the first soft beds of their lives. In the coming days, the dogs will receive more extensive exams, vaccinations, medical treatment including spay or neuter, and each dog will be microchipped before becoming available for adoption.
Rancho Coastal Humane Society is open to adopters Friday through Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 389 Requeza Street in Encinitas. Appointments are available Wednesdays and Thursdays.
